FED:Govt welcomes early whale hunt end

Australia has hailed the early end of Japan's Antarctic whale hunt and says it never
wants to see another one .. after Tokyo confirmed today it's cutting short this season's
hunt.

The announcement follows a relentless campaign from Sea Shepherd environmentalists
on the high seas.

Australian Environment Minister TONY BURKE says he's glad this season is over and Australia
doesn't believe there should ever be another whaling season again .. while Opposition
Environment Spokesman GREG HUNT has called the news a good start .. saying whaling in
the Antarctic must end for good.

Australian Greens Leader BOB BROWN's congratulated Sea Shepherd for its "great victory".
