Vic: Thousands of unionists march to support court-bound Kingham

MELBOURNE, April 29 AAP - Victorian union leader Martin Kingham today marched withabout 3,000 supporters to Melbourne Magistrates Court, where he was to face charges ofbreaching the Royal Commissions Act.

A second group of several thousand Kingham supporters was also converging on the magistratescourt.

Police were assisting the two marches, stopping early-morning commuter traffic as theunionists head towards the city's legal precinct.

Mr Kingham, Victorian secretary of the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union,was due to appear at 10am.

He is charged with two counts of breaching the Royal Commissions Act after allegedlyfailing to cooperate with the Cole royal commission into the building and constructionindustry.

Mr Kingham has pleaded not guilty to both counts.

The hearing is expected to take four days.
