NSW: Egan attacks commission over funding recommendation
The New South Wales government has launched a stinging attack on the Commonwealth GrantsCommission over its recommendation to cut funding to the state by $200 million.
In its 2002 update released today, the commission recommended to the federal governmentthat NSW receive 29 per cent of the population-weighted grant share for 2002/03 -- a dropof 0.8 per cent on the previous year's figure.
NSW Treasurer MICHAEL EGAN says the state has 34 per cent of the nation's population,and contributes 37 per cent of the commonwealth government's total tax take.
